19 Urinary Retention

Urinary retention means inability to discharge a large amount of urine accumulated in the bladder. Acute urinary retention breaks out suddenly, and the urine cannot be discharged out of the bladder, leading to unbearable pain. Chronic urinary retention is characterized by poor urination ability and frequent urination.

Patients with acute urinary retention should pay attention to receive treatment combined with uriniferous measures. During treatment, patients should relieve their nervousness and repeatedly do alternative abdominal muscles tensing and relaxing exercise.

The cupping should be applied mainly to Zhongji, Guanyuan, Qihai, Yinlingquan, Shenshu, Pishu, Pangguangshu, Sanyinjiao, and Taixi points.
